Hi,

Following my last appointment with my consultant, my DAS score is under 2 so I'm now apparently in remission ThumpUp He did however add that to have this score I'm on a hell of a lot of medication. I'm currently on; Methotrexate met jet (just been reduced to) 10mg, Hydroxychloquine 200mg, Omeprazole 20mg, Naproxen 500mg x 2, Prednisone 7.5, Folic acid 10mg weekly, Leflunomide 20mg.

The next plan is to start to reduce my steroids. I wondered if anyone else who has got to remission has been able to reduce their medication & not have any flare ups or if we all have to stay on a certain amount if medication to keep the symptoms at bay?

Thanks Louise

hi Louise,

i have to say when you are told you are in remission it always puzzles me slightly.

i am in Clinical Remission as my drugs are working for me, this was after Humira was added to the mix two and a half years ago. i was also on 10mg Methotrexate ( at one point was on 20mg ) but that was too strong for me for all sorts of reasons, and 2 x 200mg Hydroxycholoroquine. i stopped the Hydroxy after weaning off them on a reduced dose last October.

i have never taken steroids so can't give you any help there, and i don't take painkillers either.

so although i am doing well i don't class myself as in remission, as i wouldn't be if the drugs weren't doing their magic, hence Consultant calls it Clinical Remission.

i know this has been discussed many time's before on the forum, but in all honesty i wouldn't like to say how much reducing your meds would work.

be interested to hear other points of views.

Yes it confuses me a little too as remission to me makes me think something has gone away & as my consultant said I wouldn't be at this stage without the medication I'm on! It's all such a learning curve for me still but I'm just coming up to my year of diagnoses so see what the next year brings!

Hi

It is so confusing isn't it? I feel how can they say we are in remission when we are still experiencing so many symptoms and on the meds?

It is like RA a total mystery at time....ThumbDown
